Wow!  That was some great info on Iris tridentata, one of my favorite 
species.  Thanks, Victor.  Although I don't have a botanical background, I 
do share the opinion that Iris tridentata is more closely allied to the 
Louisianas than it is to Iris setosa.  I've formed this opinion based on 
two main characteristics:  seeds & geography.  The seeds are very similar 
between Iris tridentata and the Hexagonae.  Iris setosa seeds are quite 
different.  And as for geography, well that's pretty self-evident.

I've been dabbling, unsuccessfully, with crossing Iris tridentata with 
Louisianas.  I'll keep trying.  Iris tridentata doesn't always bloom here, 
so it's slow work.
