Hi Carol,
it is spuria iris. Irises of this group like plenty moisture in active
leave growth in spring, but can be left dry after flowering. Leaves
dry out and it is not dangerous. Depending from climate even after
flowering leave can remain green until autumn as is in our cooler than
in USA climate and it is good too.
