Yesterday I received a shipment of iris rhizomes in the mail from Janis Ruksans Bulb Nursery, in Latvia. These are mostly oncos, regelias, and aril hybrids, still dormant until cooler weather hopefully starts them growing again - I haven't always successfully gotten these to come to life in the past, especially the oncos.
I also have a start of Iris babadagica, still quite green after its being processed for overseas shipping. While I would like to plant this out in the iris bed ASAP, I was wondering if any iris species enthusiasts had experience with growing this, and whether I should first pot it up in a shadier spot, prior to planting it out in September or October, when my hot southern California climate has moderated somewhat?
Thanks ahead of time for your suggestions.

Zone 9, with warm, sunny weather possible from now until late October.
