Metropolis, Illinois

We were driving in Southern Illinois yesterday on
Interstate Highway 24. We stopped in Metropolis for
coffee. It's a SUPER town. As we were leaving I noticed
lots of iris growing on both sides of the freeway. Big,
honking, healthy clumps. I'd love to see them blooming.
They are just North of the exit/entrance  for Metropolis.
I think they are I. virginica var. shervei. Beautiful
upright clumps. If anyone in the group lives near there
be sure to watch for bloom next spring. I bet that it grows
elsewhere in the area also.

Sorry, I just couldn't resist a few pics.
