Good to know, Chuck â thanks so much for this information as I have
alkaline soil of at least ph 8. If you have 7 you are luckier than I am.

I have managd to
keep a few alive for a few years. Black Gamecock is one of the hardier
ones, but the most hardy is Eleanor K Wiliamson.
My soil is limesone based, so always resets to ph 7, so I can't keep soil acid like they prefer. So I have given up on them Chuck Chapman From: El Hutchison <eleanore@mymts.net> To: iris-species@yahoogroups.com Sent: Tue, Nov 30, 2010 7:04 pm Subject: RE: [iris-species] Re: LAs? Will do, Jim.
Chuck, I can't recall if you've successfully grown any LA's. El To: i*@yahoogroups.com From: g*@sasktel.net Date: Tue, 30 Nov 2010 17:45:54 -0600 Subject: Re: [iris-species] Re: LAs? If you manage to track it down let me know, El.

Have you tried the LA 'Black Gamecock'?
We're in a mild zone 4 here (lowest has been -30) but this
older cv has withstood not only the cold but total neglect (oops) during a few
summers where it managed to survive without extra water during the summers. I
suspect it's a lot tougher than most.
