Clones are a set of plants derived from a single seed, either through
natural division or artificial cloning. Artificial cloning is usually
done using ancient methods of taking cuttings, but for some kinds of
pants cloning may be done using undifferentiated cells removed from
growing tips and grown on special media under sterile conditions.
Sometimes the cells are taken from the embryo of a seed before it
sprouts, and used to grow many plants immediately from one seed. This is
useful if you are not trying to reproduce a particular existing variety
but have difficulty getting enough seeds to meet demand; I believe this
is done with Venus fly traps.
