The photo and discussion of Iris virginica alba reminds me of an Iris virginica that I collected from the Honey Island Swamp area of the Pearl River Basin in Louisiana and which I have christened I. virginica ‘WetPearl.’ The pastel lavender blooms have large yellow signals and have relatively wide falls and standards as compared to normal wild I. virginica types. It is very floriferous and makes a nice garden display with the blooms held above the foliage. The falls range from approximately 1½ to 2 inches wide and approximately 3 inches long. The standards are approximately 1½ inches wide and 2½ long. The blooms overall are in the neighborhood of 6 inches wide. I might have posted these photos previously; if so please excuse the repetition. Vic |
