Re: I. setosa var interior

Tamberg mentioned at the Species/Siberian convention a few years ago that Alaskan and Russian setosas were short-lived for him, often dying the first year of bloom. He believed it had something to do with being adapted to *extremely* long summer days most of us don't get. Hybrids involving them did not have this problem. He said setosas of Japanese origin (which are the southern edge of the species' range) were the only ones that survived long term for him.

Not that that would stop me from trying to grow Alaskan setosas...

Is it too early for me to place my order with the seed exchange for 2 bushels of I. setosa seeds?

Thanks Rod.

So would he be using a 30 foot combine to harvest seeds?  I wonder how many bushels per acre I. setosa gives.

Even seeds from plants he considers too ordinary to use in his breeding would be nice to have in the seed exchange!
