It is a definite advantage to a species to have seeds germinate at
different times so that if some batches of seedlings meet adverse
conditions, there will be some more coming along later to keep the
species going.
Weeds take this to the extreme, and look how successfully they survive.
Domesticating plants can be done by growing on only the fast
germinators so that eventually you achieve the seed catalogue ideal:
100% germination within a short period.
