Sad to relate this story. I work for a utility company and was at a nursery yesterday. I
was
speaking to the owner and I said " Your Pelargoniums look great", he corrected me and
said "Those are Geraniums".
I do worry about the future as we continue to 'outsource' everything. How many here buy
plants directly from China, India, and/or the Netherlands? Just more competition for the
nurserys and more dumbing down of the
gardening public. Tho I DO get some way cool plants via China.
On a more positive note. There are many brilliant people interested in gardening. Most of
them will be found if you search out garden groups devoted to a single genus or geo-type,
ie: iris, orchids, rock gardening, dwarf conifers.
And the web is a truely wonderous communication tool for interacting with these folks.
All the best, Jim M
