I have never had any problem with either of them. In OH I have them in mostly clay soil that has had mulch added every year. I have yet to loose one and they all flower reliably every year. I've not noticed that either grows faster than the other but I never really looked too closely.

One of the main reasons that green and white variegatas don't do as well is
that they have less chlorophyll for food production (none occurs in the white).
The yellow and green have enough in the yellow portions that they will do
better.
