RE:Double Iris cristata !

Jim I am thinking on getting Dick Redfield. Have not tried any crosses with Crestata, never even planted any seeds. It might be a good one to start with.
I have not been to the ladies farm lately where I have collected a few different ones I have now. I have a vigorous white with an orange crest.

I also have seen a lot of Crestata in the wild. In Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and Tennessee. I have never seen a double or a pink. I never thought to look for a double. I have seen many clumps on the banks while fishing in KY and Tenn.

I do know if I do get DR it will be started in a pot and not in the ground. They grow much better for me in a pot.

Thanks for the post.

Has anyone else seen the amazing double I. cristata Jan and Marty at
Joe Pye Weed's Garden are introducing this year? It's named 'Dick
Redfield' and can be seen here:

intro.html  . Just being double it's really special, but it also has
bizarrely huge crests! I really want one but at $25 I will probable
procrastinate until they are sold out.

I have studied thousands of cristata in the wild and have never seen
a double or any flowers with enormous cresting. This is truly a
wonderful addition to the species . Way cool!
