Herbertia lahue - 1997 seeds, lost cause?

(Newbie here, and while I've gardened with natives in the past, this
is my first time with iris-types from seed)

I have some 96-97 era seeds of Herbertia lahue I'd like to try. Any
suggestions? These popped up in our lawn in Texas and thrived with no
care other than making sure to mow around them until the seed pods
matured. As a result I don't have any experience to go by in terms of
what they need when they're spending their entire life cycle in a
container. (This was in Westlake, just north of Ft Worth, and from
what I found on the net, a bit west & north of their native range.
Now I'm near Atlanta, which is well north of their range)

Before we moved out of that house, I collected some seeds, which I
then promptly lost. They've been found again. Is there any chance
they would still germinate? Anything I could do to help increase the
germination? I know I could probably scrounge up some fresher seeds
online, but it'd only cost me a bit of time to try these first.

Thanks -
Sharon
