Hi Lars and Bob,
The situation around these names is more
complicated.
Unfortunately two different species are figured as
Iris scariosa.
First one - true Iris scariosa Willd. ex Link. that
grow only aroun low Volga river. Iris astrachanica is its synonyme.
Second one - Iris scariosa of Flora of China which
actually is Iris scariosa auct., non Willd. ex Link. and is a synonyme of Iris
glaucescens Bunge.
This species has large area from Ural montains
trough Kazakhstan up to Altai mountains and China. Unfortunately name Iris
scariosa usually is used in this sence wich is incorrect. Iris astrachanica is
not a synonyme of this species.
