All, A late contribution to the subject of growing I. cristata. I tried a few time to grow it here, but as others have experienced it didn't persist. My solution was to try pots. I have a couple of varieties now established in wide shallow pots. I plugged the drain holes and use my standard mix of 1 part sand to two to 3 parts "landscape mix." The pots are in shade and I try to keep them moist all through the growing season. Growth varies from season to season but I do have a few cristata blooms every year.
