Hi Bill,
I live in Concord. I've grown Iris magnifica, I. bucharica, and I.
vicaria for many years, and several other species more recently. The
usual garden I. bucharica and I. magnifica 'Agalik' thrive and
multiply readily. I've recently obtained I. bucharica 'Baldschan
Yellow', 'Top Gold', and 'Swan Wings'; so far they are all doing
very well. I vacaria 'Hodji-Obi-Gam' has held up for many years,
though it doesn't thrive for me the way I. bucharica and I.
magnifica do. I see a shoot of I. vacarica 'Sangardak' comming up,
but only one shoot; 'Hodji-Obi-Gam is still dormant.
I have I. cyclogossa from three sources; they grow reasonably well.
I'm hoping to get more than one clone to bloom in the same year and
cross them for seeds. I've tried growing several species from seed
and a number have sprouted, but two I. magnifica are the only ones,
after a very long wait, that have matured.
I have healthy clumps of I. albomarginata and I. warleyensis that
are sprouting. I have an I. wilmottiana that rather new and is
showing growth. I. aucheri 'Indigo' has sprouted but does not look
healthy. I've lost quite a few Junos; some seem not easy to keep
alive.
