Welcome both Aussies to the forum - I have been following but have been too occupied with other business to comment before now.
Both of you should be able to grow some of the junos. I have been surprised by how hardy some of the species are in our hot dry summer (well not this year with the odd summer showers - thank goodness we do not live in Qld and the flooded areas of NSW!) in the ground with added gravel. Some of the junos I have grown from seed have proved to be other species than that which I thought I was growing. Arils grow well here (about 90ks NNE of Adelaide) Personally I prefer to grow junos and arils in the ground. Another genus that I have been surprised to grow are some of the Calochortus sp.(not iris species I know)

Isn’t that a rather dry climate? Mark
