RE: Seed exchange problems?

Rod no the seed was not seized this year but a listing of all seed in the order should accompany the order. Or a copy of the printed list.

Pat,

Thanks for the reply. To be clear, have you had SIGNA seed seized? I'm wondering if a copy of your order would suffice as the required "list".

This year many of my packets of seeds from o/s have not been inspected - they have come straight through.
When AQIS inspect seed they need a list of the species as well as each packet labelled with the species name. Plus the packet arrives with lovely yellow tape all over it! It might help if hybrids can be labelled eg. "advanced Iris germanica hybrid".
Whenever seed is seized you get a letter from AQIS with the names of the seeds seized - I have always contacted them straight away and received my seed except on one occasion when it was another genus and it was not on ICON and I was not prepared to fill out the mandatory many pages of weed assessment paperwork or pay the $40 to send the seed back to sender.
Mixed seed, eg. wildflower seed, in a packet is a problem but with iris this would not happen.
Warm regards,

Thanks for all the replies! This is the first problem that has been brought to our attention. I do know that some packages that I have sent to NZ were opened and inspected. I just wanted to encourage any shy folks to complain to see if we need to make any general improvements.

Rodney,

I don't know about the rest of Europe, but Switzerland is o.k. and I never had any problems. Plants are a different story!

Have any of our international members had problems with your seeds getting through your country's plant import inspections? I have one person in AU whose seeds have been held up for incomplete labeling.
