Re: Bearded Irises

Hi Mark,

I can't answer your question, but I was just visiting friends in Brisbane Australia and we hit loads of garden centers there.  Each one had lots of Dietes and Neomarica for sale, and 1 actually had Iris pallida variegata.  We pondered the likelihood of getting it to bloom in such a hot climate (comparable to Miami) and I even thought about you & your attempts with bearded irises in Florida!  My friend loved the foliage so much that he decided to splurge & try it.  Maybe in 9 months I'll be able to say if it blooms or not.  :-)

We discussed how tulip bulbs are stored in refrigerators for winter down there and wondered if that might work for Iris pallida variegata too.  In the end we thought no, because the Iris wouldn't be getting any light.  So he's just going to leave them in the ground & see what happens.

I should really get him into Louisiana Irises or something.  :-D

porch, not in the open, would it have a chance at growing and blooming?
The porch does get some sun and is open to the outside air.
