Someone else mentioned rebloomers, but... It looks like that
vernalization is the 'big wall' against growing bearded Irises [except
Iris albicans which will grow here]. All attempts at growing
rebloomers too have failed. Some lasted a few years but then bloomed out.
It appears the 'catch' is the chilling hours issue. The chilling
hours to support vernalization simply are not here. I don't know if it
would ever be possible to breed a lower chilling need for vernalization
into the plants, or not. However, if it were possible, it probably
would be at the expense of winter hardiness.
