Cutting aril seeds

Here is a diagram from an article by Sam Norris in SIGNA vol 51 pg 1874. The 3 lines correspond to the conditions were the cut is too shallow  (AA), just right producing the best germination (BB), and too deep (CC).

I  have toyed with this a bit, but not enough to share any sucess stories.  I have found that a disposable, fine pointed scalpel is an excellent tool for the job.
