hardiness

Hello all
This winter should give me some valuable information about hardiness.  We have not been below zero for several years, and actually only rarely below 10 in the last decade.  People here were starting to say we're now zone 7.  This month, however, we have gone to -4 for several hours 3 nights in a row, with daytime warming in the teens.  I've already noticed the gardenias turning brown.  The iris I'll be watching are the japonicas.  I have some in water and some in a drier location.  Our only snow cover was in drifts and not on the iris.  Other parts of town had significantly more snow cover than I had here in the countryside with more wind.
I have louisianas and pseudacaurus in a frozen pond and also in drier areas, so we'll see if there's any difference there too.
