Re: Identification of SeedEx seeds

Jim,

Ideally, anyone donating seeds will use the database to double check the identity of their species and have fewer incidents of mislabeled seeds. I think it's understood by most SIGNA people that the purchaser also needs to do their own checking to be as sure as possible that what they're raising fits the description.

I appreciate knowing who the donor is, and have on occasion, contacted someone myself to ask for additional information. Is expanded information including a photo of the plant on the website an option?

Knowing who the donor is, I read the 'lactea x typhifolia' seed as being from a fertile (unbalanced) hybrid and would have no problem growing this out for a generation or two to see what might show up. BTW, a donation like this should be considered a real treat. At the very least you may wind up with a visual 'lactea' but one with the more adaptive traits of the typhifolia.

Personally, I like knowing what cv is involved in the seeds donated even if the other parent isn't known. It gives me some information about what I'm likely to expect in form or color.

I'd like to see a larger window for donations and reminders during the growing season about when and where to send seeds. Our weather for the past couple of years has been odd and seeds have matured a month later than normal leaving me no time to properly cure most until late November.
