We have ALL done that before. :)
I think it's great you're so passionate about irises! Of course the best solution to the problem is for donors to send in thousands of seeds. It's so cruel when they send 5 seeds of something rare. Don't you think? But I guess that's why things are rare!
The biggest frustration I had with SIGNA seed exchange was obtaining some wonderful seeds (like Iris longipetala) growing them for 2 or 3 years, and then seeing them bloom as a different species. Heartbreaking!
But I haven't given up. I have been a SIGNA member for 11 years now (I think). And as Rodney mentioned my tastes have changed a lot. I used to love regelia species the best. Now I love louisiana species the best. I grew to love SIGNA so much that I formed the species database 10 years ago, and now I find myself as the webmaster of SIGNA too. I really love it.
I hope you give us another chance next year at the next seed exchange.
Thanks,
