El, I find it is generally worth trying just about any cross that seems interesting. Mother nature doesn't have her rules set in stone! There are always exceptions, such as we have recently seen between pseudacorus and ensata. The clone Gubejin is aneuploid (not having the typical chromosome count for the species), which has allowed it to be much more fertile with ensata than expected. Also, weather and hour can play a big role in fertility.
