ï Sean,
One nice thing about doing it this way is that you
can collect pollen from a number of distinctive irises and not have to label
them till you get back to the house. The petals keep the anther safe in a shirt
pocket.
Once inside, I carefully open the blooms and drop
the anthers into small, open glass jars. Set out of direct sunshine, with good
air flow, the pollen will be ready to use or freeze in about 2 days at room
temperature.
