Re: Iris seeds germinating

>Hi Walter, I. tectorum is probably our favorite iris. We grow the species, alba, variegated, WOOLONG (collected by Jim Waddick in the >Wolong Valley China), FRECKLETEC, SUN MOON LAKE and a variety that Joan Cooper brought back as seed from Taiwan which looks >identical to SUN MOON LAKE. We also grow the tectorum/bearded cross PALTEC. Tom Silvers in Maryland has been working on >bearded/tectorum crosses for years now. Please keep us appraised of your progress with them....

Greg,
I find this very interesting.  Do you have a photo of FRECKLETEC to post?  I had some bloom this past sprin on the Tectorums I got from you, and they have good increase.  Shown is bloom on WOOLONG from this past April 24.  Maybe they will do here.  This leads me further.  I wonder if PALTEC would grow here?  I had it when I lived in Kentucky and it was one of my favorites.  I hope Tom posts some photos of his Bearded/Tectorum crosses.  Maybe this will open the door to more Irises being able to be grown further south?
Also, on Irises, I have heard before of a few people claiming they had success with a FEW Bearded Irises on the Louisiana Gulf Coast?  I wonder what some of those Irises are, and if they would grow in similar climates in the southeast?
