Re: Louisianas

I grow all 5 species in 1/2 oak barrels with drainage holes on the sides; one shoot of Iris giganticaerulea alba did find its way out a drainage hole, but so far only rot has damaged oak wood. I've just about given up growing anything else in the same barrel with a Louisiana. I almost immediately discovered that Iris giganticaerulea will grow through almost any plant in its path. Iris fulva is not as bad, but I recently removed the last Iris tridentata rhizomes into a different container. I still have the rather small "Red Dazzler" in a barrel with the Siberian, "Little Sister"; so far, after numerous years, the mass of Siberian rhizomes have held their own.

I've been growing Iris fulva "Marvel Gold" in a 16 inch ceramic pot; it suffers a bit in the hot dry summers, but comes back.

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried growing Louisiana Irises in containers?  If so, did it work without them destroying the container?
