That's the plan. As it turns out, we're actually getting lake-effect snow today, which is rare this far east. Probably only an inch, but it's better than nothing.


This is by far the earliest flower I've ever had. It even beat Crocus korolkowii, which was up February 2nd last year. Hopefully it will survive the weather and open in the next thaw.

I wonder if I could keep vartanii from emerging so early by shading it with a temporary vertical structure starting in fall, to keep the soil from warming up on sunny winter days.
