The second flower on the stem of the color split Versicolor
seedling opened yesterday.
This flower's color split was less symmetrical than the first. The
fall with two colors wasn't split down the middle, and the split
standard contained only a small amount of the second color.
I saved the stamens to see if they'd yield any pollen. One small
bumblebee and one mason bee visited the flower while I was taking
photos.
This seedling probably came from a mixture of seeds, the
surrounding seedlings were either purple or blue, the same colors
as the color split iris, but nothing I would bother to dig out of
the row to grow as a clump.
A pod is growing where the first split flower had been. I intended
to dig the plant from the seedling row, but maybe I should just
pull a few seedlings to free up space where it is. It's difficult
to tell exactly where this seedling ends and other fans that
have no stems begin.
It was almost too dark to get this photo. A few minutes later we
received a fairly hard 5" (12.5cm) rain which wasn't really
needed. We continue to have cool weather, here. The
blooming season is pushed back later in the year than
ever before since I've been growing irises.
