Re: Spec.X question

In 1939 George Allen registered a plant called 'Huajilla' that he claimed was (I. ochroleuca x 'Elephantina') x I pseudacorus. As far as I know the plant no longer exists and in its time was questioned. This would have been a spuria x louisiana then crossed with pseuadacorus. There have been several croses reported by just a couple of hybridizers to be spuria and louisiana crosses. It seems that all were questioned in their time. Certainly it seems possible to do this cross but apparently the success rate has been quite low and is still unconvincing. If a tetraploid pseudacorus were used with a tetraploid spuria or louisiana the chances would seem to be improved and a new fertile family would be created but I don't believe anyone has ever reported trying this. Good Luck.
