Re: Iris forrestii

Joan, of course I remember you.  You're still a mainstay in the garden community here.  After three tries, I have an Iris chrysographes that is zone 4a hardy, five seasons now.  Strangely, it grows in excellently drained, 3/4 sun, hot and rather dry.  The plant displays obvious protest, but I think the hard life and dry winter soil aids in its winter survival.

The Iris forrestii are in similar, but perhaps not quite as harsh a situation.  I planted some offsets of that chrysographes in a richer, more "amenable" garden this year.  We'll see how they do.

Hi Rick
Guess you may know me. I'm an old old species grower from Minn. and belong to the Rock Garden Society. I've grown quite a few of the Sib 40s . They usually survive the winter, except chrysographes, but seem to leave in the summer--too much heat maybe?       Joan Cooper
