Up to about 4 inches. Of course, with the absence of rain the water level will decline. Absence rain, I try to keep Âsome water over the soil surface by adding water. ÂI am not concerned about how high the water is in the tubs as long as some part of the leaves are above Âthe water surface. ÂWith a higher water level, one has to water less often to prevent the absence of standing water. ÂI donât believe the plants care if the water level is  inch or 6 inches.

     Thank you.  I have 18 gallon tubs, so that figure works fine.   Thinking of the foliage issue, how deep above the rhizome do you let the water stand?
