As far as I know, I. maackii may be just a separate strain of I. pseudacorus. I personally think there may be another iris in its distant background because of the differences in the signal that pop up occasionally.
 
I'll have to make a note to try the cross next season. All of the pseudacorus are finished blooming here. Odd year. None of the purebreds set seed and a few of the hybrids (Holden's Child, Roy's Repeater, & Chance Beauty) are still blooming like wild.

     What sets Iris maakii apart from Iris pseudacorus?   Try swapping pollen with the âKentuckyâ pseudacorus and see if anything turns up from that.
