Shown here is my best photo of Iris virginica. Scroll in on it and see
what you think. Also, I checked out the natural distribution of Iris
virginica. Here is the map for Michigan: http://plants.usda.gov/java/county?state_name=Michigan&statefips=26&symbol=IRVI
It is definitely found in the counties shaded in green, and it almost certainly
is found in some of the âwhiteâ counties as well, but has yet to be âvoucheredâ
there yet. I have a feeling your plant is some sort of Iris
virginica. Something I wonder is that in areas where Iris virginica and
Iris versicolor are both found, is there any possibility that there are some
natural hybrids of the two growing wild? Mark
