I ruled out graminea because I thought the foliage looked too wide and not glossy enough.  That'll teach me. I think this is one of those plants you need a bunch of to appreciate, one here and there kind of disappears.  Someone told me a couple of years ago that this was a favorite of Thomas Jefferson's.

Wear heavy gloves when you shuck the seeds. The tough pods are really rough on your hands. 

I have 10 very full one gallon pots of it for our clubs sale in August. One of my favorite irises and more folks should grow it.
