Agreed - gorgeous.
I wonder if they'll save the seeds in those fruits? I have some strong plants of the more "normal" version of I. milesii, but they haven't flowered yet (I got them from Britain this spring). Here is an only vaguely related question (they are both crested species). I also have an Iris tectorum with a "bee pod". Does anyone know if I. tectorum is self-fertile, or do I have potential tectorum X bearded seed coming on (the only other things nearby in flower were a number of old 44 chromosome bearded cultivars - some of those set fruit as well). I've started going through the photos I took at Kew Gardens on my stop over in London before Kazakhstan. I'm attaching a picture of Iris milesii that has a lot more white than seems usual for this iris. Also, the lavender looks a bit more pinkish than I've seen before. I'm also attaching a photo of what, to me, is a more typical Iris milesii; this one is also at Kew. |
