From: "Dennis Kramb" <dkramb@badbear.com> > and/or growing this year? Ooo.... You just had to ask.....
I'm right in the middle of bloom so have new things
popping open with more to come.
The one and only seedling from a cross of I.
pseudacorus X I. versicolor finally bloomed. It's a multi-petal, ugly thing with
3-5 anthers each and good looking pollen. If the blooms have stylearms, I can't
find 'em.
The sole surviving seedling from 'Adrenaline Rush'
(SIB-type JI X SIB) X 92JS10A (JI-type JI X SIB) bloomed. After seeing the
balanced looking kid from line breeding AR, this didn't impress me visually. The
bloom is blockier than the SIB types and leaves show a rib of sorts only at
the bottom 1/3. Pollen looks good though and given its pedigree, it just
might be the start of some interesting lines.
Quite a few of IZZIT's kids (F2s from Sky Wings X
I. setosa canadensis) are showing some surprisingly strong setosa traits. A few
of the seedlings from IZZIT X (I. setosa canadensis x Flight of Butterflies) are
big enough to be planted out to the garden along with seedlings from the
Siberian looking (I. setosa canadensis x Flight of Butterflies) X Setosa type
(Flight of Butterflies x I. setosa canadensis).
Some of the F2s from I. pseudacorus X I. fulva are
blooming at a year old. Most still appear to be pseudacorus but one stands out.
She's pseudacorus in form but has lost all fall markings. She'll be the
one I use for crossing to the LAs this year. The single seedling from (I.
pseudacorus x I. fulva dwarf) X I. fulva is looking good but probably won't
bloom this season.
True to form, 'Ugly Duckling' (I. cristata X MDB)
refused to bloom this year. I'm starting to wonder if this thing needs to be
disturbed in order to bloom. The only 2 times it's bloomed were those years
where it had been moved in the spring.
My very first ever PCI is blooming! I've been
planning a wide cross with this for years...
