Re: spec-x breeding

I got some mature I. Chrysograph sent to me earlier hoping for at least one
bloom.  I go two and crossed with SIB TOM SCHAFER and a dark vesicolor seedling and a BUTER AND SUGAR seedling
it looks like the BS seedling and the Versicolor seedling took
I really like I. Chrysograph but it hates it here so I wanted to try and get the look on something a little more hardy
who knows what I will get.
Also crossed PUG (MTB) with Versicolor seedling and TOM SCHAFER.
This looks like it took but won't know until the pod's ready and I see if I really do have seeds
:)

My Iris tridentata seedling (it's only 1 year old) did not bloom this 
season.  I wanted to cross it with Iris fulva.  I am soooo convinced that 
tridentata is closely enough related the Hexagonae for the cross to work, 
but it seems I have to wait another year to test that theory.

I have several other seedlings that are *supposed* to be spec-x that still 
have not bloomed for the 5th year running.  I'm getting seriously impatient 
with them!  I transplanted one of them to the pond to see if that 
helps.  Probably it'll die.

The famous spec-x 'Little Caillet' still has not bloomed for me after 
several years of growing it in regular garden conditions.  I'm sure it'd 
fare better in the pond, but there just isn't any more space.

I used to grow several of Reid's spec-x things, but none of them survived 
the move to my new house 5 years ago.  I have been dabbling with spec-x 
stuff from SIGNA seed exchange, but I only have 1 of interest that is still 
alive.  It's a tetra versi-laev from Tom Tamberg.  Hopefully next year it 
will bloom.  I remember my first tetra versi-laev from him that bloomed 6 
years ago and was so amazing gorgeous deep wine-red.  I hope this new one 
is just like it.
