Re: Paul Christian (was Re: I odaesanensis)

The second order is this year. I am single so I have no partner to
protest my spending.

I've grown I. magnifica, I. bucharica, and I. vicaria for many years in
a bed of amended clay. The first two, in particular, have done well,
which is consistent with their reputation of being easy. We have no
summer rain here (30 miles inland from San Francisco) so summer
dormancy is easy.

I've grown and flowered I. warleyensis in a raised bed of sandy loam.
This soil compacts a lot. I have started trying Junos in a coarser mixture
that includes pea gravel. The raised bed I put in last year contains loam,
gravel, relatively fine crushed lava rock, organic material, some clay, and
a bit of dolomite. It's too early to judge success yet.

Ken,
And, this year? (Does your wife speak to you after such forays?)
How do you grow your Junos?  I am considering an outside covered bed - I am in zone Zone 8.  As they say, (the ubiquitous they!) you won't know until you try.
