Yes ! I see your point - your perrieri species bloom and the hybrid I photographed are indeed strikingly alike. Since I have seen neither parent of this hybrid it is nice to see your perrieri bloom and compare.

The variegata cross you made does sound interesting. Hope it sets fertile seed !

Thanks for your kind response.

Hi Greg,
I don't have experience with that particular cross, but I do have Iris perrieri which looks very similar to your hybrid. I've had it for years in a pot for similar reasons to yours. Last year I planted it on a slope (in the ground) and it seems much happier now. I'll attach a picture I took this year of a bloom. Sorry I'm not very good at photography.

I've read that this species is supposed to be a diploid (with 24 chromosomes) and had tried crossing it with one of my more fertile diploids a few years ago. That didn't work so I'd kind of given up for a while. This season I tried a few more attempts and it looks like I'm going to maybe get some seeds from a big fat pod of Iris variegata (from X perrieri). I'd sure love to see these work, because I think the two would make a great combination.
Best of luck with your hybridizing, Tom
