Re: Iris missouriensis

Dennis,

I have discovered that they are very difficult to germinate, but I had a good germination the second year.  Then, in spite of my effort to plant them in every micro niche in my .6 acre, and knowing that they profit from the sprint run off in Colorado, I tried to keep them wet in the sprint and let them dry out in the summer, they all committed suicide for me.

This is in contrast to my limited success with PCI.

If I ever again get germination, I am going to plant them in a field of old brick cement rubble and give them a healthy dose of lime. I have come to the conclusion that this is the species which has adapted to alkaline conditions.

Let's keep trying.

Here at 2000' our JI and LI are now blooming.

WOW! These are great looking flowers! I wish I could grow them but the
blasted things never germinate for me.
