Re: Iris missouriensis

Here in New Mexico it seems that the trick to moving Iris missouriensis is to move it in the fall. Try not to disturb the root system, and don't let the roots dry out in the move. I plant it near my ponds which I flood a couple times a week. It grows naturally in grass covered valleys that flood from snow melt. I'm at 4500' (the valley of the Rio Grande). Iris longepetala also grows well in my garden near the pond. Both germinate and grow easily for me. Iris missouriensis seems to need stratification and germinates best the second year for me. Our water and soil is alkaline so maybe thats the real trick.
