Jim,
As far as bi-colors in pseudacorus-x, 'Alley Oops'
comes to mind. Educated guess is that the other parent may be versicolor. Though
it does well in gardens, it turns into a wonderful weed in standing water.
The only other amoena pseudacorus type I know of is
my 'Shape Shifter'. I've been running the same kind of exploration with its
kids.
'Chance Beauty' gave me just over 20 seeds. 3
have survived. The first 2 appeared pseudacorus and I intentionally crossed
them to give me the seedlings blooming now. 11 have bloomed including a cream
and what appears to be a broken color. I didn't do a count but wound up with 78
that grew large enough to plant out. This season I'm crossing the first
generation pseud types with the last seedling to bloom from that
group (It appears I. laevigata) as well as the best of the yearlings. There
won't be many crosses done since pollen from 2CB3 is sparse.
I selfed 'Shape Shifter' the first year it bloomed.
(I haven't been able to coax it to set seed again.) From dozens of good
looking seeds, few germinated and only 8 of the 9 survivors have bloomed.
Crosses made among the first 6 plants (all pseudacorus type) produced the
seedlings I'm watching this season. From enough seed to weigh, I germinated
enough seeds to give me a nice sampling and currently have 58
seedlings.
So far, 7 of these have bloomed. I'm using the
oddball seedling's pollen from the previous generation on the best of these. As
with the CB group, not many crosses can be done because of the lack of pollen
available.
I'm hoping to update my page as these groups both
bloom (Our ISP is upgrading its system so nothing is certain). You can find them
at http://www.povn.com/rock/newHybrids.html .
