RE: ID please

Defiantly west coast of Bruce peninsula.

But if on Manitoulin Island it would be very  very limited. I have never found it there and have checked various suitable places. A specific location would allow me to check next time I'm there.

Manitoulin Island is a very interesting place to visit. My grandfather was raised there and there still are a lot of cousins living there and a good number of family graves and a WW1 monument to several of my grandfather's cousins that died in the war.

Total current population of Island is 16,000. It is very large island and very rugged. considered Northern Ontario climate. About same as Sudbury Ontario. Soil can be very limited. My Grandfather and siblings had as one of their chores to collect soil  to bring home for the garden.

Lacustris is also found around Lake Huron & the Bruce PeninsulaâI recall being on a ferry there & seeing a tourist brochure which  featured it.

My first thought is that this is lacustris. Some botanists have placed lacustris as a subspecies of cristata because they are very very similar. Generally lacustris is much smaller and confined to a small region around Lake Superior and Lake Michigan. But there are very small forms of cristata in limited locations in the Southern USA that would be very hard to tell from the classic lacustris. Good to hear from you Yuri, Sincerely Bob Pries
