Subject: [iris-species] Iris flavescens

What an incredible Iris this has turned out to be! I never paid much
attention to it until this year when an acquaintance in Europe expressed
amazement that mine is fertile (his is not). So I was pollinating it
like crazy this season. And consequently I noticed two remarkable
things about it (aside from that it is fertile).

1.) It bloomed for 24 days. That's over 3 weeks of bloom from one
clone of Iris. Granted, I have a huge clump of many dozen bloom
stalks. But still... no other iris in my collection comes close to that.

2.) It blooms regularly every year without the need for digging &
dividing. Again... no other (bearded) iris comes close to that.

So I'm happy to have started hybridizing with it. If these traits are
passed along to the offspring, that would be stupendous. The drawback
is it's diploid. But anyway...... I have lots of pods forming, so I'm
hoping this is the start of a fun adventure. :-)
