Re: iris flowers not opening

Kathleen,
Is there any possibility that it could be the Gall Midge? I know that insect has been an issue on Daylilies in your area of the country and in British Columbia.Â

Can anyone tell me what is happening with this iris? I grew it from seeds, from SIGNAâs seed exchange, in theory I. chrysographes. The plant is about 4 years old now, and was shaded by a fern for 3 years, and has not flowered until this year. This year, released from shade and competition, it sent up numerous buds, which have failed to open. The buds are withering away, and no flowers have appeared. There are no signs of disease (except on withered fading buds), and the rest of the plant looks healthy.

What is going on?
