Re: Nice species cross seedling from AIS Convention

For info on Rubicon, contact Patrick Coleman. He indicated to me that it would take a few years to get enough of it to sell it. As for it's ability to endure Midwest winters -- ask Patrick about that, too. The idea of such crosses ( PCI x Sino-Siberian) is to enable the beautiful PCI traits to be grown in more places -- but I am not sure anyone knows yet if this will do it.

Heaven have mercy, that iris is gorgeous!
Any ideas about how soon they will have it available for commercial sale???
(I have no idea how long it takes to go from prize-winning seedling to available at nurseries.)

PS:
Hmmm....I do suppose it will be garden worthy here in the Midwest in spite of one of its parents being a Pacific Coast iris, won't it?
Any iris growing outdoors here has got to be able to withstand temps down to -20F

This is a stunning, near perfect red accomplished by Carol Lankow with a
cross between a Pacific Coast Iris and a Sino-Siberian.Iris/ It is a
named seedling which the Colemans are propagating at Cascadia Iris in
Washington State for introduction in the future. For more info about
these such crosses see http://www.cascadiairisgardens.com/calsib.aspx.
As we commented earlier -- seedling competition was tough at the
Convention this year
