Re: Iris foetidissima seedlings

I love love LOVE this species.  I was growing it for almost 20 years in
shady spots near my house.  Then somebody smarter than me said, wow!
those shouldn't be so hardy in your zone.   And then they all died that
winter. :-P:'(

I had been donating seeds to SIGNA throughout those years, and I
fortunately had some on hand to try to replant in my garden.  Only 1
survived.  So I'm currently nursing it along, hoping to re-establish my
lovely clumps of it.

I had been trying to cross it with Spuria irises 10 yrs ago, or so, but
none of the crosses ever succeed in giving me fertile seeds.  I also
tried crossing it with Iris versicolor after someone in Italy succeeded
in doing so about 3 years ago.
