Finally reticulatas started opening yesterday. 50-60 of the early
purples. But the big surprise was while checking on junos I found many
self sown magnificas. This is a first for me. , tho many juno iris do
well here and I have raised some from my own seed. These were in a
group near the south side of the house and mulched lightly with wood
chips. The others in bare soil, grass or with gravel mulch have no
seedlings visible. Willmottiana alba is almost a thug in my garden.
This is my most vigorous juno. Thought I'd dug it out where it was
out-growing some rare iris but I missed some as today there were 5
shoots emerging at it's old location.
Now, if we can just avoid one of those single digit late freezes it
will be a glorious spring here. The earliest things are a couple weeks
late this year but making up for it by blooming very well.
